Can a personal trainer order blood work for clients?
No — personal trainers can't order blood work, because lab orders need a clinical license. What a trainer can do is point a client to Priority One, where the client orders their own tests, an independent licensed physician authorizes the order, and results come back to a dashboard the client can share with you. A baseline before a program starts and a follow-up after: a metabolic panel, lipids including ApoB, fasting insulin and A1c, vitamin D, iron and ferritin, a full thyroid, and for many clients sex hormones. Most of it isn't in a routine physical, and a client asking their doctor for it often gets a shrug.
Every one of those is in the Priority One store as an individual test or in a panel, so a client can order exactly what you asked about and nothing else.
How it works for a trainer or a gym
Send the client to the lab store, or if you work with a lot of people, ask us for a partner menu — a short curated list under your gym's or your own name so clients see the tests you actually care about. They order in their own name and pay their own price. When results land, they can export a PDF or show you their dashboard, and you plan the next block with real numbers.
We don't pay trainers or gyms per order, and we don't run a commission program for anyone with clients. The client pays us; you're not in the money. What you get is a client who can finally get the blood work you've been telling them to get.
How ordering your own labs works
Pick the tests or panels you want from the lab store — individual tests start at $5 and panels at $79, with the price shown up front. An independent licensed physician reviews and authorizes the order; that's what makes it a valid lab order without a visit. A flat $10 lab service fee covers that authorization and the draw, once per order, however many tests are in it.
You'll get a requisition to bring to any Quest Diagnostics location — no appointment required at most sites. Results usually land within about a week and appear in your Priority One dashboard, where they're charted against the lab's reference ranges and against your own earlier results so you can see the trend, not just a number.
Priority One is available in 47 states. New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island don't allow this kind of self-ordered testing, so we can't serve those three yet.
Common questions
- Can I order for a client and have them pay me?
- No. Orders are placed by the member in their own name and paid directly to Priority One. That keeps you out of the medical and the money entirely.
- Can my gym get a page or menu?
- Yes. We build curated partner menus for gyms and studios. Email us with the tests you'd like on it.
- Is there a commission for gyms?
- No. We don't pay per order to anyone who refers their own members or clients.
- Will Priority One tell me what my results mean?
- We show your values, the lab's reference ranges and your trend over time, and we flag what's out of range. We don't diagnose or recommend treatment — bring questions about specific results to a licensed healthcare provider.
